LA County Animal Care and Control has instituted "arms length" as their new policy when you want to adopt a pet. No more going to animal shelters to see what dog or cat you like. You are now limited to only seeing one animal per appointment moving forward. This is NOT a Covid-19 policy. This is the new way of doing things at the pounds. Kelly Cross, Deputy of Animal Care and Control for Janice Hahn, says that its the new way of doing things at the pounds. First, you'll have to locate the counties website. Second, pick a photo of one of the listed animals. Third, call to set an appointment which will happen about three days after you call. Drive across the County to the pound for your appointment. Don't be late or you'll have to start the entire process over again. Fourth, meet the dog in a designated area of the pound. If it is not a match, you'll have to start the process all over again FROM HOME. That's right. You only get to see ONE animal when you visit.

Kelly also explained there will be no more visits to the pound where you get to see several homeless dogs and cats per visit. There will be no more photographing or videoing animals in the kennels either. Basically, the pounds are closed. You'll be turned away if you just show up. Meanwhile, our animals are sitting out in temperatures over 95 degrees with little to no hope of being adopted. We MUST get our LA County Supervisors to overturn this new decision to limit our communities from having access to our adoptable pets.
