KU equal rights for Indie Authors

The Issue

I am an independent author, one of many who have chosen to self-publish our works. We are a diverse and vibrant community, contributing significantly to the literary world. However, we face a significant hurdle in our journey - Amazon's Kindle Unlimited (KU) policy.

Currently, KU allows traditionally published authors to have their books listed without exclusivity. This means they can sell their books on other platforms alongside KU. Yet for us independent authors, the rule is different. To list our books on KU, we must agree to exclusivity - that is, we cannot sell our books anywhere else.

This discrepancy is not only unfair but also stifles the growth of independent authors who rely heavily on multiple platforms for visibility and income. It seems that this policy benefits large publishing houses at the expense of indie authors like us.

We are not asking for special treatment; we simply want equal rights and opportunities as those given to traditionally published authors by Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program.

We may be small individually but collectively we are many; together our voices can resonate across continents and compel change where it is due. We urge all indie authors and supporters of literary diversity to join us in demanding fair treatment from Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program.
