Get rid of the unfair, unreasonable, unnecessary blazer rule.

The issue

At Koonung Secondary College, there is a uniform rule which states that the blue Koonung blazer 'must be worn to and from school, as well as period 1' by all students wearing the academic uniform. The reasoning we are provided is that it is to 'advertise' and 'represent' the school,(unless it is 25°C or above) despite the logo also being located on the jumper, as well as the white shirts, and the recognisable dresses already associated with our school. It is unreasonable for us to be forced and punished for not wearing these expensive, uncomfortable, inconvenient items of clothing, purely for this reason. Students should not have to spend their time before the school day researching the weather in Mont Albert North on the Bureau of Meterology website, especially given the set homework, expected hours of study per night, out of school commitments, heavily encouraged maintained physical activity, time maintaining social relationships, and the '9+' hours of sleep teenagers require to grow and develop healthily, as well as get to school on time. It feels as if teachers are more focused on what outer garment we wear than the previously listed aspects of our life, as well as educating us, which is what they are paid and study numerous years to do. Students are able to simply keep the blazer on their chairs, as long as they carry it on them, what is carrying around a piece of blue cloth going to 'advertise', what is the difference between it sitting behind our backs, out of sight, than it being in our locker, safe and one less item to worry about. We are simply requesting that students can choose to decide what outer garments they wear at any time of the day (given it is the correct school uniform), or that even a compromise is made to lower the temperature, punishment, or required period of time we are made to wear it. We aren't asking for much. Detentions and uniform notes to write take away time from our lives, and place further inconvenience/stress on our families, time that could be much better spent. Some students cannot simply walk home or catch a bus that regularly comes, some have routines, require parents/guardians to come to pick them up and take time out of work, or time out of supervising other siblings or family members. All this effort, for students to simply wear a blazer is unnecessary. Imagine if the time spent reinforcing these rules was spent teaching us actual information to help us in our future endeavours. It is unreasonable, a complete waste of time, and downright the stupidest subject to dedicate so much effort towards.
