Request to extend Metro Phase 3 from Marthahalli to Varthur

Request to extend Metro Phase 3 from Marthahalli to Varthur

The Issue

Metro phase 3 study has been officially announced to be in progress, with RITES as the agency doing the feasibility study.

A metro on ORR(SilkBoard to KR Puram) and Varthur stretch is an opportunity for a significant majority of East Bengalureans to ditch their vehicles for daily office/school commute.

This petition is to request concerned authorities to direct RITES to conduct a feasibility study on this route and extend metro route.

Below map shows the route East Bengaluru citizens have been asking for: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1nIG-M9J16up02vhTxQ0g8U7UQA8

Due to an earlier citizen's movement ( #SaveWhitefield ), Shri KJ George had agreed to consider the request to build metro on ORR from Silkboard to KR Puram.

Also BMRCL had also put up a notice in 2013 about Phase 3 being planned along ORR and on Old Airport Road. Metro Phase 3 map

Either way, we have a metro at Marathahalli. It is well known that Marthahalli bridge, Kundalahalli signal, Varthur Kodi, Varthur Police Station etc are major choke points.

It has also recently been highlighted that Varthur - Gunjur stretch is already a major residential hotspot. By the time Phase 3 begins, this stretch would be brimming with traffic as Varthur road and Panathur road are the only exit options.

There is a new 100 acre (1.5 Lakh employee capacity) Embassy Cornerstone tech park proposed at Varthur Kodi, Prestige Technostar park near CMRIT ( 10 million sqft), Brigade tech park near CMRIT (26 acres).

Around 30,000 students are also travelling daily to around 20 schools, in around 500 buses, to & from the designated school zone. With all the new developments in the area and lack of an alternate route, the situation will become worse than it is today.

Also a metro on this route provides easy connectivity for all of bangalore to the school zone and avoid bus transportation costs for most.
Considering Metro's pro-consumer approach, asking for a exclusive coach for students can have a positive outcome. This sort of connectivity can transform this education hub.

GoK also needs to consider to fast-track metro and start Phase 3 in parallel. The delays in underground stretches should at best not be affecting Metro's aspiration to have city wide coverage.
