Yesterday, the federal House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance tabled its pre-budget consultations report, entitled “Cultivating Competitiveness: Helping Canadians Succeed.”  It contains 99 recommendations for the upcoming federal budget. 

Among these recommendations is item 69: Provide stable and predictable funding for the Stem Cell Network to maintain
operations after March 31st, 2019.

Although the next federal budget is not expected until spring 2019, this is promising for us! But, in the meantime, we need to keep reminding the government of the importance of supporting late-stage stem cell research that is close to reaching the clinic and the many patients in need of new therapies.
