KIPP KC: Demand for Accountability

The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, caregivers, staff members, students, alumni, and community stakeholders of KIPP Kansas City, submit this petition to request that KIPP Kansas City Board initiate a formal review and oversight intervention in response to escalating concerns about the school’s executive leadership, governance practices, and organizational environment.

Background and Summary of Concerns
Over the past 18 months, stakeholders have raised concerns repeatedly through board meetings, written correspondence, and direct outreach. These concerns relate to the following issues:

Concern 1 — leadership instability, excessive staff turnover and transitions. Constant turnover in teachers and leaders has left students and families without the consistency they need for stable, effective learning 
Concern 2 — lack of transparency in decision-making, withheld information, and potential financial mismanagement
Concern 3 — student safety issues, programmatic disruptions, culture or climate deterioration


Despite substantial community testimony, the Board of Directors has not yet taken meaningful or visible action, nor has it communicated a plan for addressing the concerns. This lack of responsiveness has eroded trust and worsened the challenges facing the school.

Requested Actions
We respectfully request that the KIPP Kansas City School Board initiate a formal review that includes:

  1. An independent comprehensive evaluation of the school’s executive leadership, including adherence to professional, ethical, and operational standards.
  2. Stakeholder engagement conducted by an independent third party, such as: Listening sessions, Anonymous surveys, and Staff and family interviews
  3. Corrective action requirements, if the review finds cause, including but not limited to: Leadership remediation or replacement
  4. Commit to transparent communication with families and staff regarding any findings or decisions
  5.  If the board does not commit to these actions, we will formally call for the resignation of the KIPP Kansas City Board of Directors

We submit this petition with the shared goal of ensuring that KIPP Kansas City remains a safe, stable, and high-quality educational environment. We believe that board involvement is the most effective path toward restoring trust, strengthening governance, and securing the long-term viability of the school.
