This petition was started by a group of Kingswood Oxford hockey parents and alumni stakeholders. On November 3, 2014, the Administration and Board of Trustees announced on that they were going to convert the hockey rink into a Field House and Fitness Facility and "phase out" the hockey program. The primary reasons given were that the rink facility requires improvements, the high overhead of maintaining the rink, low participation/interest in the program and the need to offer a multi-use Field House. A very generous donor has stepped up and offered a substantial gift of $500,000 to cover the necessary repairs. An experienced rink owner has taken over the operation of the facility which should, through proper scheduling and marketing, turn the rink into a profit center for the school.  As for low participation/interest in the hockey program, it is believed that if we disassociate from the Founders League and play a competitive schedule against like-talented schools, Kngswood will have a hockey program that is more attractive to a larger group of local hockey players. With more players interested in participating in KO hockey there may even be an increase in enrollment.  As for a site for the Field House, Kingswood owns the neighboring property occupied by the Children's museum and the museum has already announced their plans to relocate by 2017.  While we don't disagree that a Field House and Fitness facility would be a viable asset for the school, by using the neighboring property, there is plenty of space to have a State of the Art, multi-purpose Field House while keeping a profitable on-campus rink.  With both of these assets, Kingswood will have an enviable on-campus Athletic Center to benefit all Kingswood athletic programs and attract new students.

What remains is the need to demonstrate to the Board of Trustees the depth of support for Kingswood Oxford Hockey.  By signing this Petition, you are letting the Board know that the community supports the Kingswood hockey program.  It doesn't make sense to remove what should be a revenue generating asset from the school and to discontinue the proud tradition of Kingswood Oxford Hockey.  The hockey program has been in existence at Kingswood Oxford for more than 40 years and has provided countless boys and girls outstanding opportunities and valuable life experiences that cannot be taught in the classroom.
