The sign has gone up and King's have issued a statement on Twitter that they are sticking to their decision. No notification, no consultation or opportunity to comment. Generations of public access to the river shut down in a moment, by just a few people, based on spurious claims about public behaviour.

Anywhere else in the country there would be a 'change of use' notice displayed, and a proper consultation process in place. 

The swell of support for this petition is having a powerful effect however. The local councillor has now stated they do not want a ban on swimming, ecologists have come forward to dispute the claims of erosion caused by river users, people from around the world are sharing their stories about why the meadows mean so much to so many.
