WOW! You went above and beyond my goal of 80,000 signatures. We now have over 100,000 people asking Kijiji Canada to stop the sale of animals and promote pet adoptions! That’s amazing!! Are you ready for the next move? A few weeks ago, I had a great conversation with Mr. Ed Powers, Vice-President of Business Planning & Operations at Petfinder. During our conversation, I mentioned to Mr. Powers that Kijiji continues to reveal the existence of several ads that do not meet their posting policies, such as ads promoting the sale of animals under 8 weeks old, ads illegally selling purebred dogs without registration papers, and unethical breeders posting dogs for sale under “Shelter” to avoid paying the $4.99 charge. Mr. Powers justified posting Petfinder data on the site, stating that it was one more way of promoting Petfinder adoptable pets. You can read his response in the link below. Unfortunately, Kijiji does not promote pet adoption more than it promotes the sale of purpose-bred animals. In fact, there are more animals for sale by individuals and registered breeders than animals from shelters on Kijiji.ca! We need Kijiji Canada to help thousands of friendly and healthy pets waiting in shelters and in registered rescue groups across Canada to get adopted through their site. After all, it’s Kijiji’s “top priority to offer a safe channel for the re-homing of animals online.” Will you help me make sure Kijiji is listening by posting on Kijiji’s Facebook wall or Twitter handle right now asking them to only post adoptable pets?
