Following up on my email, Nestlé Purina, the owner of Petfinder — a searchable list of pets from over 11,000 shelters and rescue groups across Canada, US and Mexico — responded to me as follows:
"Our tech team is planning major renovations to the website in 2025 and is basically in the process of rebuilding it. As part of the process, they are investigating the best way to offer language translations. It’s not clear yet on timing.
In the meantime, Canadian shelters are encouraged to post information about their adoptable pets in both French and English on their pet profiles. It’s not the ideal solution, but until we have the new site developed, the current technology isn’t able to support the functionality."
In October 2022, Petfinder informed me that they were working towards having their site available in both English & French in the future. As of today, Petfinder is only available in English.
Too many Canadians are turning to classified websites to find a companion animal, unaware of the thousands of friendly animals available on Petfinder.com
