HFM Article Man lucky To Survive Crash pleads for safety Improvements

A man told by doctors he should not have survived a crash at an accident blackspot on the outskirts of Market Harborough, is backing a call for urgent safety improvements there.

Trevor Goodwin from Rothwell spent three months in hospital, including four days in an induced coma, after suffering life-threatening injuries when his car was hit by a van on the A6 at the Kettering Road junction, at Clack Hill, in September 2016.

It took fire crews over two hours to cut him out of the wreckage before he was airlifted to hospital,

Trevor, who suffered 23 fractures to his body, spoke to Hfm after a petition was launched earlier this month, calling for highways bosses to act.

Over 470 people have now signed a petition.

Although a roundabout is planned for the junction, as part of a new housing development near-by, it is not known when that will happen.

Councillor Trevor Pendleton, cabinet member for highways and transport at Leicestershire County Council, said: “We’re aware of the petition calling for a review on the A6. We’ve been carefully assessing the details of accident data from the location over a period of time and we continue to evaluate if there are educational, enforcement or engineering measures which could be introduced.

“The council also has to consider that the junction is being changed to a roundabout in due course as part of a housing development. We don’t, at this stage, have a timescale for the work to start on the roundabout.”
