WE ARE APPROACHING 400 SIGNATURES ON OUR PETITION AFTER STRONG SUPPORT FROM VOTERS!

At the March 3 election, Kennebunk voters added over 200 signatures to  our petition calling on the Select Board and Town Manager Mike Pardue to revise Pardue’s contract and require him to resign as Town Manager if he is elected to the Maine State Senate in November.  This is in addition to our online signature count.

Voter turnout was strong and steady. Many people made a special point of returning to the Town Hall lobby to sign on to our petition, “Kennebunk Town Manager Can’t Be A No-Show Job”, including several former Selectmen and several former School Board Directors.  Awareness of the issue was high, but even those who were just learning of the contract provisions expressed shocked disbelief and confusion over how and why the Select Board would sign such a contract.

Among the comments we heard multiple times:

*"This is not good for the Town."

*"I have to show up to my job if I want to get paid, why doesn’t  he have to show up to his?"

*"Who is supposed to do his work while he is in Augusta, and how much extra will that cost us?"

*"If we only need a part-time Town Manager, why have we been paying him a full-time salary?"

*"He should focus on the one job he already has."

*"I’d be happy to take that job at that salary."

*"How could they think that this was a good idea?"
