WE HAVE OVER 100 SIGNATURES ON OUR PETITION TO THE KENNEBUNK SELECT BOARD AND TOWN MANAGER MIKE PARD
On Saturday we reached our first goal of 100 signatures telling the Select Board and Town Manager that the Town Manager must be required to resign if he is elected to the Maine Senate. We are making our voices heard!
WHAT’S NEXT?
*** Come to the next Select Board meeting on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 6:30 and tell them that citizens are disappointed in the new contract that would excuse the Town Manager from his duties at Town Hall but pay him his full salary plus increased retirement contributions while he is far away in Augusta. The Board takes public comment near the beginning of their meeting. You can give a detailed explanation of why you oppose this no-show job, or simply state that you want the contract changed.
Petition signers are telling us some of the reasons they want this change:
- We need a full-time Manager, not one who is away in Augusta for as much as six months out of the year.
- It’s not fair to other Town employees to shift the Manager’s work load onto them.
- If the Select Board thinks the Manager’s job can be part-time, his pay should be reduced accordingly.
- Comparisons to other public employees who have served in the Legislature are apples to oranges.
- If the Manager represents the Town’s interests in the Legislature (suggested by some as a reason for the arrangement) he would be in violation of Senate ethics rules.
- The Select Board signed this new contract without necessary public input.
- It has been revealed that one Selectperson has a “special interest” in the Manager’s campaign that was not disclosed to the public; others have refused to disclose whether they have conflicts of interest.
