Even as the COVID-19 pandemic offers a clear lesson in the importance of having our public employees and officials on hand and available to perform their duties, our petition demanding that Town Manager Mike Pardue be required to resign if he is elected to the Maine Senate in November has been signed by nearly 600 people (206 signatures on the paper version are not included in the online tally).
To put this number in perspective, this is nearly 30% more than the number required by the Kennebunk Town Charter to put citizen initiatives on the ballot and 30% more signatures than a change.org petition to keep the Mousam River dams collected.
Yet Select Board members continue to dismiss the public outrage over the Town Manager contract as a “difference of opinion” and wildly exaggerate the cost and difficulty of hiring a new Manager if Pardue were required to resign.
Please take this opportunity to address the Select Board and Town Manager directly at their meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.). Due to social distancing requirements, the meeting will be held online via Zoom. This offers a chance to speak during the Public Comment portion of the meeting without having to leave your home or stand at a podium.
