I am happy to say that todays meeting with Mark Watman (VPAA) and Morgan Smith (VP Advancement) went very well! I had a student and faculty member with me who also shared their concerns and opinions. Outcomes: 1. We are working together to set up a meeting with our board members to: -discuss the concerns of students and faculty on this subject -propose setting up a commencement speaker/honorary degree board made up of faculty, alumni, administrators, and students who will work together to choose a speaker who better represents our diverse community in the future. 2. We are working together to set up a meeting with president Michele Perkins to also address the issues of how and who is chosen for commencement speaker, as well as, who recieves the honorary degree in the future. 3. I will work hard to make sure that at commencement our faculty, staff, and students can stand up for their beliefs while also being respectful of this important day and our school.
