Hi everyone,
Recently, we have met with Kellogg's to ask about their updates and to see if they're following their policy. We were slightly underwhelmed by progress made, however it's still early days and they appear to be on track to achieving goals set out in their policy. Here are the main points from the meeting:
- We discovered that they are certain that they are on track to reaching 100% RSPO physically certified palm oil by 2025
- They are working with organisations such as POTC and Proforest to assess their suppliers and make sure they are increasing their sustainability and reporting consistently. These organizations collect data on palm oil supplier's sustainability practices, helping companies like Kellogg's to track where their palm oil has come from. (You can see the results of these surveys in their latest 2021 report)
- Unfortunately, the results of these surveys revealed that there's still quite a lot of work to be done as many suppliers are still under expectations in important areas like deforestation and labour.
When the 2022 report is released, we will be able to track their progress and hold them to account on any unachieved goals. For now, we must continue to keep pressure on major companies to reform their supply chains. Kellogg's have set targets and now we, as consumers, must ensure they stick to them. Thanks so much for all your support,
Jia, Asha and Harvinder
