I want to thank all of you for signing and sharing my petition, which has attracted over 6000 signatures in a matter of weeks. In setting up the petition, I wanted to force Labour to listen to the arguments for proportional representation instead of brushing the issue under the carpet as it has done in the past. I thought it was important for the party’s leadership to be confronted not only by Labour members who are let down by the party’s refusal to back change to our dysfunctional voting system, but by every UK citizen whose democratic choice is suppressed under First-past-the-post.

6000 signatures later, I’m convinced that there are enough of us to make the case for PR so loud as to be unignorable. What matters now is that we keep making noise. To this end I’m asking you to do two things:

1. I want a big push to get more signatures on the petition. An article published yesterday about us in the morning star (link below) proves our ability to garner media coverage as the number of signatures grows. Once we reach 10,000 signatures, I will be in a strong position to request a meeting with Keir Starmer and deliver the petition in person. Please help us get there by sharing the petition wherever you can possibly share it!

2. On the 22nd of August, the cross-party organisation Make Votes Matter is holding a day of action to make a splash across the press and social media. Please sign up to the event here to take part in huge co-ordinated demand for PR https://www.makevotesmatter.org.uk/day-of-action/aug-2020 If we all take part with posts and banners that address Keir Starmer specifically, the momentum of our campaign will receive an enormous boost.
