The Issue

KEEP YALE LOOP AS IS!

Four Lanes. No Parking. No Concrete Barriers. Protect Our Trees.

Meet The Loop Troop!

Steven Alves, candidate for Irvine City Council District 5, started The Loop Troop to protect Yale Loop and give Woodbridge residents a stronger voice in decisions affecting their neighborhood. After recognizing the need for a community effort opposing the proposed changes, Steven called for residents to come together and create The Loop Troop and this petition.

Alert!
You do not need to donate to sign the petition. The money goes to change.org not our cause. Thank you! Please sign and share that would be great!

Look at the photograph above. Those are the beautiful jacaranda trees lining Yale Loop. They’re part of what makes Woodbridge special, and residents want to protect them.

The City of Irvine is considering roadway changes that could reduce vehicle lanes, introduce on-street parking, and add concrete curbs or barriers changing the iconic landscape of the loop!

The Loop Troop is asking the City to:

1. Keep all four vehicle lanes — two in each direction.

2. Preserve existing bicycle lanes and maintain no on-street parking.

3. Protect the jacaranda trees, including their roots and canopies.

4. Avoid installing concrete barriers.

5. Release traffic studies, collision data, emergency-access reviews, tree-impact assessments, and project costs.

6. Give residents a meaningful opportunity to be heard before changes are approved.

Our first step is this petition. We’re inviting Woodbridge residents to participate by signing, sharing it with neighbors, and joining The Loop Troop’s community activities.

Steven is helping lead this effort now, and the group hopes to continue working with him and other City representatives on Yale Loop issues.

Woodbridge is our home. Yale Loop is our road. Our community deserves a voice.

“**From the Office of Councilmember Martinez Franco** Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your concerns about the Yale Avenue Enhancement Project. I want to reassure you that no final design has been selected, and there is currently no finalized plan to reduce Yale Loop to one travel lane. The different roadway configurations that have been shared are options City staff is using to gather feedback and better understand how residents use Yale today. We know how important Yale Loop is to the surrounding neighborhoods, and our office truly appreciates hearing directly from the people who live there and travel through the area every day. Councilmember Martinez Franco shares the concerns residents have raised about removing an entire traffic lane on Yale Loop and she will continue to coordinate with staff to keep the community updated. Please rest assured that Councilmember Martinez Franco takes resident feedback seriously and will continue advocating to make sure the voices of those who live in the area are heard throughout this process. We are also making sure concerns about neighborhood access, schools, bicycle and e-bike safety, trees and other potential impacts remain part of the discussion. Public Works is currently in the initial community outreach phase, which is expected to continue through mid-November. Along with resident feedback, staff is gathering information such as vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle counts before determining which alternatives may be appropriate for further consideration. Once that information has been reviewed, there will be another round of community engagement in 2027 so residents can weigh in on the alternatives that move forward for further discussion. No dates have been finalized for that next phase yet. You can also follow project updates and future outreach opportunities on the City’s website at: https://www.cityofirvine.gov/mobilityprojects Thank you again for reaching out and making your voice heard. Councilmember Martinez Franco and our office genuinely value your input, and we will continue listening closely to residents as this process moves forward. Sincerely, Community Relations & Communications Representative Office of Councilmember Martinez Franco [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]”
