The wire trash cans in the South Street Headhouse District of Philadelphia are an integral part of our community, helping keep our streets (relatively) clean. Removing these trash cans, with no viable full-size trash can replacement (e.g., full-size trash cans with lids), will contribute to more trash in our community, more potential pest problems, and could cause more businesses to leave the South Street area. In fact, the city's own study confirmed that less receptables increases litter: "The results did show that when trash receptacles decreased, trash collected as litter increased and staff time spent on collecting litter also increased."

We urge Eleanor Ingersoll and relevant stakeholders to reconsider this decision for the sake of preserving our local environment. Please sign this petition if you believe the South Street Headhouse District should keep its wire trash cans.
