We, the undersigned, demand that Broward County Public Schools immediately remove any proposal to close or restructure Walter C. Young Middle School (WCY).WCY is a top-performing, zoned neighborhood anchor.  It is the only A‑rated public middle school in our area and  vital to the neighborhood. Closing or restructuring it would push students into lower‑performing schools or out to charters and private options—further weakening the public school system.

This decision should center students. Officials and representatives should be working to expand high‑quality options, not restrict them.

 Proven performance and unique opportunities: 

• A‑rated — the only A‑rated public middle school in the area.
•  #1 in Broward for ELA learning gains and top 3 for Math gains.
• +/-92% average pass rate on all EOCs since 2022.
• Ranked Top 6 in Broward for district Math and ELA proficiency for 2025–26.
• Cambridge International program (rigorous, internationally recognized).
• Dual Language program building full bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish); and the only Broward middle school offering high school level Italian.
• Young Falcon Flyers: 8th graders take high school courses on a high school campus.
• KnextGen Knights ICT courses (information and communications technology).

Our ask

Keep Walter C. Young Middle School open and intact. Protect the quality, access, and stability our students have earned. It’s supposed to be about the kids—let’s act like it.
