Dear Friends of VicHealth,
Over the past week, media coverage in both the ABC and The Age has shone a bright light on the value of VicHealth and risks of dismantling the agency - and the response has been powerful. Leaders from across the political spectrum have been voicing serious concerns about the Government’s plan. The latest news today from the upper house shows there is strong cross‑party support for keeping VicHealth independent, with supportive remarks from the Shadow Health Minister Georgie Crozier, Animal Justice Party, Legalise Cannabis Party and Greens.
This is an encouraging development, and it reflects the momentum you’ve helped build. But it’s not over.
The Labor Government's plan to absorb VicHealth into the Department of Health is still on the table. Unless the Government reverses course, Victoria still risks losing a celebrated, world‑leading health promotion agency at a time when investing in innovative, community connected prevention has never been more important.
As MPs return to Parliament this week, we will continue to engage directly with them across all parties to reiterate what’s at stake and the importance to Victoria of a strong VicHealth - we encourage you to do the same!
We’re still calling on the Victorian Government to withdraw this plan and instead strengthen VicHealth’s independent mandate so it can continue delivering long‑term health and economic benefits for our communities.
Thank you for standing with us. Every signature, letter, phone call, social media post, and article calling on the government to keep VicHealth independent and strong helps. Your voice is making a real difference - and we need it now more than ever.
Let’s keep going. Let’s #SaveVicHealth.
