It was announced on BroadwayWorld yesterday that Houston Broadway Theatre has canceled its production of Falsetto's. The article cites "production, staffing, scheduling, and financial restraints" making no mention of this petition's overwhelming impact in just one week. The Houston Theatre Community is showing itself as just that, a community; ready willing to stand together with over 1400 signatures at the time of writing this update.
In this week, Cease and Desists have been sent out to not only this email and to change.org, but also to some of our vocal supporters, some of them even being victims. We are looking into legal support during this time so if anyone would like to offer any support, or if you have been contacted with a cease and desist, please email HoustonTheatreTogether@gmail.com.
So why is all this important? While the community is standing together, he is still trying to control the narrative and silence dissent. To show the very nature of the person we are fighting here, I am sharing just a few stories from his victims. I am sharing these with the permission from the victims who will be kept anonymous, and these are all their accounts of encounters with Tyce Green. Please read at your own discretion as these accounts are extremely upsetting and span roughly a decade of abuse.
- "[Tyce] would invite me over to hang out. Saying that we could talk about upcoming college, watch musical theater videos, and i could smoke weed outside. He didn’t smoke but would often take ambien and said that was his version of “getting stoned.” I just thought it was like a Xanax or something. One time he asked me if i would like to try one and foolishly i did. The last thing i remember is going for a walk around his neighborhood. Hours later I slowly regained consciousness and Tyce was standing over my naked body touching himself. "
- "He was a contractor hired by [redacted] High School Theatre and was brought on my sophomore year to workshop with us. He originally told me how talented I was and how he could help cultivate that talent… then he got very weirdly critical of me after some performances and told me I would need more training and 1 on 1 to unlock my potential. One night he texted me saying he was stoned and naked at home and wanted me to come over and eat Taco Bell with him…
Never went over there. Fuck Tyce Green" - "I was 17 auditioning for college programs and had an audition at Oklahoma City University. I originally was planning to stay with a mutual friend of mine and Tyce's. Somehow, unbeknownst to me, that plan changed and I would stay with Tyce that night in an apartment that had one bed and no couch. Immediately he said he needed to cuddle to sleep, and when I started to fall asleep, began to kiss me and initiated oral sex with me. I was in a strange city with nowhere else to go. When he pulled me to reciprocate I was able to regain control of the situation and stop it from going any further. Months later I would show up to a friend's house and to my surprise he was there. He then proceeded to brag to the friend about how we hooked up."
It is my goal that this petition raises as much awareness as possible in an online world in which Tyce is able to bury stories like this through legal intimidation. The victims here and those who share these stories deserve to know that their voices are being heard. If you have any experiences with Tyce Green please email them to HoustonTheatreTogether@gmail.com
Thank you again for the support, and thank you for proving that we are Houston Theatre Together.
