The Issue

As the Valley River Center in Eugene undergoes its exciting new remodel, local families are thrilled to see our mall growing. However, a major piece of the community is missing. Management has removed the iconic, carpeted children's play area. I contacted Valley River Center and they confirmed it will NOT be replaced.

While the incoming DICK'S House of Sport and upgraded entertainment options are fantastic for older kids and adults, our youngest children are being left out.

During Oregon’s long, rainy months, this play space was a vital lifeline for Eugene-Springfield parents. It provided one of the only free, safe, and dry indoor spaces for toddlers to burn off energy. For thousands of local families, this play area is the primary reason we pack up the kids, head to the mall, shop at local retailers, and eat at the food court. Without it, many families will simply stay home or shop online.

Ironically, the mall's exciting new marketing motto is "Get Ready to Play." We love this vision, and we are asking Valley River Center to include its youngest guests in that promise.

We, the undersigned residents and shoppers of the Eugene-Springfield area, respectfully ask Valley River Center management to allocate a small space in their new common area plans for a dedicated toddler play zone.

Let's keep Valley River Center a true multi-generational hub for our community!

Please sign, leave a meaningful comment, and share to show management how much community members and their families value this space to play.
