To our friends and supporters. We have apparently kicked the hornets nest with our support for the bills in the senate and assembly that will return our COLA. We have had radio show personalities mislead their listeners about where the money for COLA would come from. We’ve had union folks telling members that they won’t be able to get a raise if some 85 year old retired cop or firemen gets another $100 bucks in his pension check. It’s pitiful how low they’ll stoop to keep those desperately in need without COLA. The fact remains that we’re under attack for trying to do right by folks who dedicated their lives to protecting the public.

Our former employers have had 12 years of not paying any new COLA and seeing their overall COLA obligation dwindle every year, as our members died off. Did any of you see your local property taxes decline as a result of this windfall they enjoyed? Did any of your state taxes decline because the state didn’t have to pay COLA for more than a decade? Neither did I!

We’re going to start identifying folks who don’t support doing what’s right by all of you. I’ll ask you to take a moment to contact them me let them know we aren’t the enemy. Please, be polite but firm with them. We have to push back on the dishonesty and misinformation we’re seeing.
