500 signatures, announcement on indoor masking on Thursday

Our petition to keep mask requirements on public transit and ride-share vehicles has surpassed 500 signatures in less than two days!

I want to thank each and every one of you for signing this petition and standing with me to defend public transit riders in B.C. by calling for a continued masking requirement. Please keep SHARING the petition by posting on Twitter, Facebook, Discord, Reddit, etc. and getting your family members and friends to sign.

It was just reported that Dr. Henry and Minister Dix would be providing their update on indoor masking and vaccination cards on Thursday. This has been rumoured for weeks, and when I launched this petition I acted quickly, assuming that an announcement would be made early this week. The good news is that we have a bit more time to ensure that we are heard. The bad news is that it's happening (the rumours were true!)—and there have still been no hints as to whether masking requirements will be kept on public transit, or not at all.

Today I had the opportunity to sit down and write letters to Dr. Henry, Minister Dix, the TransLink Board of Directors and BC Transit's Board of Directors, informing them of the petition and outlining my concerns and goals as the petition starter. If I have heard back from any of them, I will be sure to provide an update.

If you are also concerned about the upcoming changes to mandatory mask rules in other public settings (such as schools), I highly recommend you check out other petitions such as the one by Safe Schools Coalition calling for continued masking in schools.

Remember that for those who are more vulnerable to COVID (such as by being clinically extremely vulnerable) and for children under 5 who are not yet eligible for vaccination, your participation is especially valuable.
