Keep The Mallawa Fields Off-Lead so the Dogs and Our Community Can Play and Meet Daily

The issue

Every day, numerous residents of our community, both two-legged and four-legged, find solace, joy, and a sense of belonging at Melaleuca / Mallawa Park. From families teaching their kids to play sports to dog owners forging bonds with fellow enthusiasts, the park acts as a melting pot of memories and shared experiences. These residents, especially the daily dog walkers and their furry companions, are now facing the very real possibility of losing access to their beloved off-leash area.

The heart of the matter lies in balancing the multi-functional use of Melaleuca Park. On one hand, the park provides space for sports enthusiasts and children to play and practice. On the other, it offers an irreplaceable space for dog owners to socialise and for dogs to frolic freely. Taking away the off-leash privilege could diminish the sense of community spirit, leading to a loss of a cherished space where many have built friendships, shared advice, and watched their pets grow. However, we also recognise and understand the concerns raised by the sports community and genuinely believe there's a harmonious solution waiting to be found.

As urban spaces become increasingly scarce and the need for community hubs more critical, now is the moment to act. With rising tensions and the looming decision to alter the park's current status, immediate action is imperative. By coming together as one community and addressing these concerns collaboratively, we have a golden opportunity to shape the future of Melaleuca Park, ensuring it remains a haven for all its patrons.
