Hello again,
When I thought the petition hit a low, we forced it to make a high! Overnight in less than 24 hours, our petition has jumped from 439 signatures to 530 signatures! I can't thank everyone enough!
I got extra lucky and got the opportunity to speak with Brenda Ordonez again on FOX19 to update and Chelsea Sick on Local 12! The interviews were in person this time around. I hope you can hear the emotions in my voice! The Makerspace means everything to me. It means everything to my community.
What we also got this time around was the Milford Superintendent John Spieser to comment on the petition. In summary, he did confirm that the Makerspace has been temporarily closed. He mentioned that the school gets a fixed amount of money for funding and "the earned income tax is to keep everything that we have intact now.” He also mentioned that if this tax does not pass, elementary schools risk losing art, music, and physical education classes, along with the six current elementary school buildings placing students by grade level.
I'm looking into my next steps. This petition is for my community; I will fight until we get what's right. I'm thinking about speaking again at the next Board of Education meeting. Talking to administration. Emailing state officials. Looking into more potential sponsors.
However, now, we're looking for volunteers willing to do an FBI and/or BCI background check to run the Makerspace for our students. If you're interested, email Mr. Spieser directly at spieser_j@milfordschools.org or you can call (513)-831-2990 (during school hours) and ask for Tyler Arnold.
It may look low now, but I see hope in the fate of the Makerspace. All support and words are appreciated! I especially encourage students (or parents of said students) who visited the Makerspace to leave comments since it shows first-hand experience in the Makerspace.
Once again, on behalf of my community, we can't thank you all enough for the support.
Sincerest regards,
Kenzie
