We have just reached 7000 signatures on the petition. We need more please! Please share the link with those who share the views of Prof Prance that this plan is ridiculous so that they might sign also, and perhaps put their views in a comment. Today’s top comment:
Per Ahlberg: As a systematic biologist, Professor at Uppsala University and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, I am appalled that this short-sighted and destructive idea is even considered, let alone NOW in this time of accelerating biodiversity crisis. Taxonomy and systematics have never been more important disciplines than now, when they become key tools in the global conservation effort, and they are absolutely dependent on well-cared-for, securely stored, and easily accessible collections. The proposed move would endanger all three aspects of the Herbarium and would signal to all the world how little you value what are actually your two greatest treasures - your Herbarium and your research staff. For shame! I honestly think Sir Joseph Banks would claw his way out of his grave to voice his outrage if he could. Please reconsider this insane plan while there's still time.
