***Updated Summary to Reflect the Need for the Continuance of the Petition***

In response to repeated attempts to open Freedom Drive, we would like to voice our support in keeping it closed to vehicular traffic.   As a route for vehicular traffic we argue that the impact on traffic is negligible and provides no realistic "alternate" route if traffic on Park Lane South is heavy. We believe this .3 mile stretch of road is better as a pedestrian/bike route.

Everyday hundreds of pedestrians, runners, bikers, and families make use of the open street.  Enjoying its peace and quiet away from noisy Jamaica Ave.  They also enjoy its proximity to the bigger attractions in Forest Park such as Victory Field, The Carousel, The Bandshell, and Picnic Areas, using Freedom Drive as a shortcut to them.   Because of this, we believe opening Freedom Drive to Vehicular traffic would endanger the dozens who would have to cross two lanes of traffic on an unmarked crosswalk to get to the sidewalk(see image below). 

Since its closure during the Pandemic, This little stretch of road has been enjoyed by so many people in the community.  It would be a shame if what appears to be a very vocal and persistent few succeed in reversing what has been a welcome respite for the community.
