The Issue

Stagecoach bus 71 that travels from Carlisle to Kirkbride & Wigton is set to be terminated on January 2nd 2027.
Many residents of Kirkbride and neighboring villages such as; Moorhouse, Kirkbampton, Fingland & Anthorn, use this bus to get to Carlisle for work, education, GP, dentist, events, family/friends, leisure, etc. Without it, many will be left stranded with no alternative route.

This petition has been created in hopes of reaching the Carlisle Council as well as Stagecoach to reconsider their decision in terminating bus route 71.

There is no railway connecting Carlisle to Kirkbride, meaning that people will have to travel from Kirkbride to Wigton to get to Carlisle. The elderly residents might find this new journey route difficult to navigate, including the higher costs of travelling by bus and train just to get between towns. Many people are not able to drive or can’t afford to. They rely on this bus service.

I am hoping that this petition will reach Carlisle Council, please consider keeping bus 71 operating between Carlisle & Kirkbride/Wigton, so that a community of people who depend on this bus aren’t shut out.
