Hind Leys makes an offer!

After a suggested solution from the Local Authority more than a week ago, the Principal of Hind Leys Mr Parrott said on Tuesday that he is looking at allowing students to go to another College – specifically Rawlins Academy - for AS Spanish lessons, although it may not work out at this stage due to the complex timetabling issues. It is sort of a compromise by the school, but they said that students/ parents would be expected to arrange transport at their own expense - even though the late decision regarding dropping Spanish is the school's fault, and it should be their responsibility to make any alternative provision work! We are still waiting for confirmation if this will actually go ahead at all. Half term is in one week and then we are on exam leave! Surely it would be easier and cheaper for us to stay at Hind Leys and continue lessons with our current Spanish teacher, as was the original plan in November? It doesn’t really make sense to be talking about taking us seven miles to another school and back four times a week to learn Spanish, when there is a brilliant teacher already at Hind Leys! Nicky Morgan MP said in an email today “I understand the frustration this has caused for the students and the difficult position this has put the teacher in. I would hope the school could arrive at a situation where those who had been expecting to take Spanish at A Level from September at Hind Leys could do so whilst knowing that this option wouldn’t be available at the school for future years.” We are pleased that she is supportive of our year group being able to continue to study Spanish, although it seems that future students will still not have the opportunity to study beyond GCSE.
