NEW Short Stay Law EXCLUDES 99% of AirBNB in Cottesloe

Today Cottesloe council released a draft Short Stay policy that specifically supports Sharing a room or granny flat where the host lives on the property but EXCLUDES letting out your entire house or apartment on AirBNB or Stayz. After lengthy consultations and waiting nearly 2 years for council administrators to develop a sensible approach to legitamise Short Stay accommodation in Cottesloe, we have been served a proposed local law that make it near impossible for 99% of existing short stay properties to qualify. According to the proposed law you must reside in your property, must be located in the Foreshore Centre between Napier St and Forest St and must make a Development Application and if successful pay $500 registration fee. If you operate without a license, the penalty is $4000! It seems council have ignored the reality that 84% (121) of all listings are entire apartments or houses that operate successfully outside the Foreshore Centre in the Residential Zone in Cottesloe without any regulation. There are only 22 properties that operate 'Shared' accommodation representing just 16% and according to their planning scheme, nearly none of these properties fall into the Foreshore Centre, so effectively the law only relates to maybe one or two properties in Cottesloe at best. Tomorrow night Tuesday 21st November, at 6:00pm councillors will hear feedback from the community about the proposed Short Stay law and we must stand up and let councillors know that the proposed law is flawed and needs to include ALL Short Stay properties operating under uniform rules to be fair and effective. Please at least attend the meeting and/or bring along supporters to show councillors that you are not happy with the proposed laws, if you are prepared to speak for 3 minutes, that would be fabulous!
