Hello All,

This post is specific to those of you residing in the borough of Wyoming. We got our waste management calendar and this year while there is no significant price increase we have lost the service of recycling. 

 

The borough cited a price increase of 110 dollars if they kept recycling. 

 

I am frustrated by the lack of transparency of the borough. As well as the lack of data and evidence to support their decision. 

 

I would be interested to see what data or evidence was utilized to make such a major decision. A simple poll to determine what was of value to residents would have alleviated the council of any guilt of being heavy handed in your decision making. 

 

I am also confused as how are trash/recycling fees are so high in Wyoming when my parents in West Wyoming pay 200 dollars a year for trash and recycling services with a weekly pick up. 

PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION so that we can take it to the council meeting to show them what the residents of Wyoming think. As well as to show them how simple it is to check the temperature of a community.

I am including the response I received from rhe borough below. I would encourage anyone who is concerned about loss of service and our environment to go to the next council meeting on January 8th.

 

"I hope this gives some clarification why the council decided to eliminate recycling services for the borough. Our trash removal contracted services expires December 31, 2023. With that being said, In June the council placed an advertisement for trash removal services for the borough. The borough received 2 separate bids, The request for proposal included all the current services.

June bid results: Annual cost to residents (2-year Contract)

Waste Management 2024 =$425.00 2025=$450.00

J.P. Mascaro 2024= $450.00 2025= $475.00

The council reviewed the proposals and decided they wanted to rebid the Trash removal services with eliminating recycling.

Another Request for proposal was advertised for September.

The borough received 2 bids (2-year contract)

Waste Management 2024= $315.00 2025= $330.00

J.P Mascaro 2024= $382.00 2025=$415.00

The council didn’t want to impose an increase of $110.00 on the residents so they voted to eliminate recycling services.

If you would like to speak to the council regarding their decision, you can attend a monthly council meeting. Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor at the borough building located at 277 Wyoming Avenue. The public is welcome to attend and express their concerns.

This wasn’t an easy decision for the council to make. They tried exploring other options, but unfortunately at this time this was the most cost effective for the residents.

The next council meeting will be held on January 8th, 2024 at 7:00 p.m."
