Someone has been tampering with this petition - as evidenced by the extreme fluctuation in supporters. We've "reached" 3,000 supporters at least four times now, only to later see the support plummet in a matter of hours. There's only one entity that has a real reason to tamper with the petition: UCLA. At one point, curiously immediately following a post by Milan Chatterjee, this petition was subject to a 'bot attack' in an attempt to hide Chatterjee's comment by repeatedly posting variants of "jkl" in the comments section. Campus Reform explored this problem in detail. Campus Reform reached out to Tod Tamberg, UCLA's Director of Strategic Communications (aka Crisis Manager), to inquire about the possibility of UCLA tampering with the petition. Instead of categorically denying any involvement in it, Tod Tamberg aggressively snapped and instead attacked the reporter for even asking the question. Tamberg knows how to handle media; he's a trained crisis manager, after all. The fact that he snapped at the very suggestion of UCLA tampering with this petition is meaningful. • If UCLA had clean hands in this matter, Tamberg wouldn't have gotten so angry in the first place, and absolutely would have categorically denied any involvement in tampering with or hacking the petition. • If UCLA was doing something shady, Tamberg would either lie and say the school had no involvement, or at least demur and state that he was unaware of any tampering/hacking activities but that he would investigate it. Why would Tamberg angrily aggress a reporter for asking this question if UCLA had done nothing wrong? The most logical inference here is that UCLA is somehow interfering with this petition. By doing so, it shows that they have absolutely no respect for the First Amendment whatsoever. Whenever they disagree with something, the school interferes with the right to assembly, the freedom of speech, and the freedom of press. It would be unsurprising if they also disregarded freedom to petition, as well -- and they very well may be doing exactly that by interfering with this petition.
