As of March 11, 2026, at 2:05 PM, 201 supporters have signed this petition—but we need more.
What is this petition?
This is a community “show of hands” from those who oppose the closure of Park Crest Middle School (PCMS) and want to highlight the many people who would be affected. Strength in numbers will demonstrate that this community truly cares. As many of us have said, PCMS is more than just a building.
What happens within the walls of PCMS is exactly why many of us chose this neighborhood school. Those of us working to keep it open are also standing in support of the dedicated staff who have served here for years and the countless hours they invest every day—often long before our kids even arrive at school.
As of this writing, a Reddit post titled “Keep Park Crest Middle School Open” has received over 7,000 views. That means thousands of people are actively paying attention—many of whom may also be impacted by a potential closure. This issue doesn’t affect just PCMS; Brookhollow, which feeds into PCMS, would also be affected. The future of PFISD as a whole could be impacted as well, as some families may choose to leave the district entirely in search of other options.
What are we hoping will happen?
Our goal is to bring this issue to the attention of the School Board—not simply to vent frustration, but to gain a clearer understanding of how we reached this point. While we know that state funding plays a role, that is not the entire story. As taxpayers, we are also asking an important question: Why do we get to vote when a school is built, but not when one is closed? Set up an Emergency Meeting to hear us.
Here are a few of the repetitive points being shared:
Commute Time to the proposed Kelly Lane MS.
Safety of the kids that have to walk to school in unchartered territories.
Bullying.
I hate writing this word but it came up more than once, Suicide. A child that didn't fit it.
Parent Participation.
How much are we saving that outweighs the added transportation cost.
How much is the "building" really going to cost as an ongoing expense if it is left vacant?
If the building is "aged out", can we as parents do anything to Volunteer our time and get Donations for upgrades?
Who is going to be responsible if a child underperforms due to special needs on their last year of MS?
Why is Kelly Lane doing well in numbers and why haven't we looked at using what's working to the so called underperforming schools in the past?
If you care about the future of PCMS and our community, please add your voice to the petition and make sure all members of your household, kids grandparents, your next door neighbor all sign. Every signature helps show that this school matters.
Additionally, this Petition has PFISD Board President Chevonne Lorigo-Johst as the Decision Maker. Chevonne has remained neutral in online correspondence and shares sympathy for what we are going through. Chevonne has stated that she is sharing our feedback with the District.
