Thank you for your continued support in protecting the park and recreation zoning at the northeast corner of Meridian Village Parkway and Ridgegate Parkway. We wanted to provide you with an important status update.

URGENT: Land Use Meeting and Public Hearing — Tomorrow, June 9

There is a Land Use Meeting and Public Hearing scheduled for tomorrow, June 9, 2026 at 2:30 pm. This is your opportunity to speak directly to decision-makers about this issue.

You can attend in two ways:

  1. In Person: Commissioners' Hearing Room, 100 Third Street, Castle Rock
  2. Watch Live Stream: https://www.douglasco.gov/board-county-commissioners/meetings/business-meeting-public-hearings/
If you signed this petition, your voice matters. Even if you can only watch the live stream, seeing community engagement sends a powerful message to the Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners.

Understanding the County Review Process

If Shea does submit an application to change the zoning, here's what we can expect:

Douglas County will conduct a 3–4 month technical review of the application. If the application meets county standards, it will advance to the Douglas County Planning Commission (12 members) for evaluation and recommendation. Following that, the proposal will move to the Board of County Commissioners for final decision.

Why Park Space Matters: The Legal Standard

Douglas County law is clear about the importance of public parks in residential areas. Section 1003.01 of Parks Article 10 establishes a specific formula for calculating minimum park land requirements in residential developments:

Local Park: 0.015 acres per dwelling unit
Regional Park: 0.030 acres per dwelling unit
Total Required: 0.045 acres per dwelling unit (based on 15 acres per 1,000 populatioN)
The current zoning preserves this land for public benefit. Rezoning to allow a multi-story apartment complex would eliminate a designated park space.

What Happens Next

We will continue to monitor developments closely. Your presence at tomorrow's meeting, whether in person or via live stream, demonstrates to county officials that this community cares deeply about protecting our green spaces and maintaining responsible growth.

Your signature on this petition is powerful. County commissioners know that when community members take time to sign a petition, they represent many more who feel the same way but haven't yet spoken up.

Would you help me get more signatures by sharing this petition with ten other people on social media? Facebook groups, SMS chats, X, email and WhatsApp all work great. If more of us sign, we can’t be ignored!
