The Issue

Stop logging in Lane and O'Conner Creek Watersheds!

The areas around Lane and O'Conner Creek are critical watersheds that supply pristine drinking water to the people of Naselle, WA. Any logging activities here jeopardize the purity of our water supply.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently planning a timber sale (Lane Creek Sale) that would allow logging in these sensitive areas. This decision could have detrimental effects on the quantity and quality of water we consume. Logging disrupts this delicate balance, causing erosion, increased sediment in waterways, and potential contamination of our water sources. Without the forest to absorb runoff and hold moisture around the streams, we could experience issues with flooding downstream in the winter and low water in the summer.

Water contamination is a grave concern that affects the well-being of every resident. According to studies, areas that have undergone logging experience a significant increase in sedimentation, which can lead to a host of water quality issues, influencing everything from taste to potability. Protecting these forests ensures a sustainable future where our community has continued access to clean and safe drinking water.

Signing this petition supports the demand for halting the proposed DNR timber sale around Lane and O'Conner Creek. Let's protect our drinking water and ensure a healthy future for Naselle, WA. Please add your signature to make a stand for our watershed's protection.
