As of recent, RRISD has come out about the 30 million dollar debt the district is facing, causing changes to the school’s current staffing system. When given the choice, Ms.Collins chose to move Mr.Pedersen to part-time, only allowing him to teach 3 classes. 

This large change would not only completely change the way the band operates but severely hurt the way the band performs. 3 beginner classes would be forced to move together, 2 advanced bands would be forced to be merged, with the possibility of a cut in beginner instruments all together. It is simply not possible for a community so large, to perform well with such little directional time given. Under conditions like these the future generations of the band community will suffer indescribable losses, taking so much away from such a high performing fine art.
