Dear Supporters:
It’s been a long time since I last updated you about our petition to keep a new McDonald’s documentary, 540 Meals: Choices Make the Difference, out of our children's schools.
That’s because, for many months now, I've had reason to believe that our petition and the surrounding media coverage actually succeeded in getting McDonald's to reverse course and stop pushing the film into schools. (You can read why I thought so here: http://www.thelunchtray.com/mcdonalds-540-meals-petition-victory/.)
However, without being able to independently confirm these facts, I didn't feel it was right to declare victory on my petition and so this campaign has been at a standstill ever since.
Now, though, a story in today’s Washington Post (linked below and appearing in the print edition tomorrow) confirms unequivocally that McDonald's actually retreated from the 540 Meals/John Cisna in-school initiative way back in November, right around the time of my initial blog posts about this misleading film and the launch of our petition.
In other words, WE'VE WON!
This is now my third successful Change.org petition and I’ve never felt more hopeful about the power of ordinary people like us to make real changes in the world - even against one of the largest corporations on the planet.
To all 89,513 of my petition signers: THANK YOU for standing up for our children’s health! And please feel free to follow my other advocacy efforts related to children and food on The Lunch Tray.
Thank you again.
