COMMUNITY UPDATE – NOVEMBER 2026 Council provides an update, but questions remain

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared our petition. Your support is helping keep the future of Logan Metro Fitness Centre in the spotlight.
Logan City Council has now advised members that the tender process is nearing completion, with the proposed model bringing the entire Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre, including the gym, under one operator.
There are some positive announcements:
Existing memberships, access, classes and services will continue during the transition.
Existing members' fees will be maintained at their 19 January 2027 rates for the first 12 months.
We welcome these commitments. However, many important questions remain unanswered.
Unfortunately, gym staff are unable to answer members' questions about the tender process, as the details are confidential and staff themselves have not been provided with information about the proposed future arrangements. This leaves members uncertain about what lies ahead.
We are seeking clarification from Council about:
Will Active and Healthy classes continue at Logan Metro?
Will the new operator be obligated to preserve the welcoming, inclusive and community-focused environment?
What will happen to membership affordability after the first 12 months?
Will existing membership arrangements, including options to combine gym and basketball court access, be maintained?
Will members be consulted before significant changes are introduced?
We have also encouraged Council representatives to visit the gym and speak directly with members, particularly those attending Active and Healthy classes, as not everyone can attend the community meeting on 11 November at 6pm, run by Jacob Heremaia (Councillor Division 8).
WHY WE ARE CONTINUING THIS PETITION
This campaign is not about opposing a change in management. It is about protecting a valued community facility and the welcoming atmosphere, affordability, friendships and social connections that have been built over many years.
We appreciate Council's recent update, but believe long-term affordability, inclusiveness and the continuation of community programs must remain priorities.
Please continue to support and share our petition.
Our community matters, our voices deserve to be heard, and we want to ensure Logan Metro remains an affordable, inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support!
