Keep Lincoln Trees

Keep Lincoln Trees
The issue
This is a request from the residents of Lincoln to keep as many established, healthy trees (including hedges and other vegetation) as possible during the Lincoln town upgrades. There are mixed messages from Selwyn District Council - on the one hand they say that they want to keep trees and understand their importance, but on the other the Lincoln Town Plan is set to remove trees - or have trees ‘not survive the construction process’ - they need to try harder and walk the talk not just talk the talk….
To summarise very briefly trees provide:-
Oxygen
Reduce air pollution
Prevent soil erosion
Help regulate the water cycle
Provide resources and habitat for wildlife/ birds
Support biodivesity
Help combat climate change
Help local communities
Have a positive effect on mental health
Provide shade and cool the environment
Please sign our petition urgently. We will be presenting at the next Council meeting on Wednesday 11th December. This situation is urgent as work has already started in the town.
To contact the Council directly with your concerns email Sharon Mason, CEO, sharonmason@selwyn.govt.nz
