Keep kids off Motorcycles

The Issue

January 30, 2022 my friend Colby asked me if I wanted to go for a short ride on his Motorcycle. I declined but eventually said yes. we were 16 years old at this time and he had only had his Motorcycle license for 2 weeks prior. while we were riding i started feeling scared and wanted to get off but Colby could not hear me saying so and I did not want to let go to tap his arm in fear of falling off. as we passed a stop sign, a driver coming in where we were passing hit us at a fast speed. I got ejected nearly 110 ft and when I woke up I looked to my right and saw Colby. How does a 16 year old girl react to seeing her friends lifeless body 6 feet away from her? How does she move on with that image forever engraved into her memory? she doesn’t. I don’t want to move on, I want change. There are kids that watch Motorcycles on social media and all the cool videos, with the high hopes of buying one once they’re 16 and able to, but with what experience? Teens who are 16 do NOT and can NOT excel in good judgement and rational thinking. In fact the rational part of a Teenagers brain isn’t fully developed until around the age of 25 so why are we giving literal CHILDREN access to motor vehicles with such high power let alone any motor vehicle at all? Kids are dying EVERY DAY due to lack of attention and responsibility. There are moms and dads losing their children, getting calls in the middle of the night to rush to a hospital, holding their dead sons hand wishing they could’ve done something sooner to stop it. NOW IS THE TIME. Kids these days are unpredictable, unaware and reckless and should definitely not be handed a motorcycle. People should not be eligible for a motorcycle license until the minimum age of 18!! this is something that should have been set a long time ago. kids can’t be trusted on motorcycles and people need to stop pretending like they can. raise the age!
