The Issue

For many years, the Joliet Training Area has been a treasured spot for local hunters. Personally, I've hunted here alongside my family, sharing the joys and challenges of the hunt, and it's become a cherished tradition passed down through generations. The memories forged in these woods have not only strengthened family bonds but have also rooted us deeply in the heritage and tradition that hunting represents.

Hunting is more than a pastime; it's a way of life and an essential part of conservation efforts. Many residents of Joliet and beyond have relied on this area as a place where they can both engage with nature and support wildlife management practices that keep ecosystems balanced. Closing off the Joliet Training Area to hunting would not only disrupt these cherished family traditions but could also have unintended negative consequences on local ecosystems.

As urban development continues to encroach on natural habitats, areas like the Joliet Training Area become even more critical. They offer a refuge for wildlife and a space for future generations to connect with nature in the same way we have. By maintaining controlled and limited public hunting access at Joliet, we ensure that both the land and the people who cherish it continue to thrive.

Thus, we kindly ask the local officials to recognize the significant cultural and environmental role that this area plays. Instituting systems such as permit-based access hunts during certain times of the year could ensure sustainability without closing off public access entirely.

Please support our tradition and conservation efforts by signing this petition to keep the Joliet Training Area open and accessible for limited public hunting. Together, we preserve a rich history and contribute to a sustainable future for both the local community and the environment.
