Butler County Pennsylvania opened it's very first dog park in May of 2019.

Butler dog owners were overjoyed to have space for their dogs to socialize and get exercise in a safe fenced-in area. The dog park was open year-round. Gates to block off vehicle access to the dog park were closed / locked in the winter months due to Butler Co Parks and Recreation reports that they were unable to provide maintenance from December to April. 

Dedicated dog owners parked their cars and walked their dogs up a hill to the dog park to allow dogs to use the dog areas. In winter, ice and snow made the walk risky for many people. For people with health issues or injuries, it made use of the dog park impossible. Senior dog owners also struggled to get to the park on foot. 

Recently, Butler dog owners have asked Butler Co. officials / commissioners to allow the gates to be open year-round. This would allow cars to drive to the dog park entrance and all could enjoy the space without risk of injuries from walking in winter conditions. The road to the dog park is about a 10th of a mile. 

Butler Co. officials responded by not only keeping the gates closed but also to close the entire dog park all together from January to April. 

I believe Butler Co. Pennsylvania can do better, do better for our residents and our dogs. Please sign and share if you agree the dog park should be open and accessible by vehicle year-round.
