Keep It Ventura Ave.

The Issue

Ventura Avenue is one of the original and earliest streets mapped by the Railroad establishing Fresno in 1872 to recognize California’s early history and Mission Buenaventura named by Father Junipero Serra in 1782. California Street formed the first east-west street alignment south of the downtown grid in 1881.

Earlier this year, Fresno City Council voted to change the names of Kings Canyon, California and Ventura Avenues to the surprise of many residents who didn't even know the change was on the table.

The voted on name "Cesar Chavez Blvd." while well intentioned, disregards the history of those who call Ventura Ave. home as well as the history of the community around it.

Join us in preserving our piece of Fresno because while there is many ways we can honor a great civil leader like Cesar Chavez, the name Ventura Ave. is the only home some residents of our city know.
