Keep Hemp Legal in NC (2022)

The Issue

The Issue: All NC laws that define hemp as separate and distinct from marijuana, removed hemp from the NC Controlled Substance list and allow for lawful free access to hemp derived products will expire on June 30, 2022. This means that ALL hemp products will be classified as marijuana, which is currently illegal in NC.

The Impact: As the owner of a family owned and operated hemp retail store in Raleigh, NC, I am concerned that we (in addition to thousands of other NC families) will lose our investment into the NC hemp industry. All NC hemp business owners will be jailed or forced to close our small businesses which will result in tens of thousands of lost jobs in NC. The financial impact on the NC economy will be devastating due to the hundreds of millions of dollars in lost tax revenues. This will negatively affect our farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers alike.

More importantly, millions of North Carolinians who have benefited from hemp products will now have to suffer needlessly from pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety, disturbed sleep and poor quality of life again.

The Solution: We need to demand that our legislators write and pass a short bill to make the current NC hemp laws permanent before June 30, 2022.

They need to protect the hemp industry in our state and allow free access to all hemp derived products regardless of the legal status of marijuana
