The Issue

I live right next to Great America in Santa Clara, CA, and have been going there for years. This theme park is not just a place of fun and excitement; it’s a cherished part of our community's history and culture. Generations of families have created lasting memories here, from thrilling roller coaster rides to festive holiday events.

Recently, the park's owner, Cedar Fair, made a deal with Prologis, a real estate company. The park would be closing in a maximum of 10 years. But Cedar Fair hasn't sold the land yet, they only made a deal. They made the deal to get out of their debt. But with Cedar Fair merging with the other theme park monopoly, Six Flags, the theme park may be saved.

Great America also plays a significant role in our local economy by providing jobs and attracting tourists. According to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, theme parks like Great America contribute millions of dollars annually to the local economy through tourism-related spending.

Closing this beloved park would be a tremendous loss for Santa Clara residents who rely on it for both recreation and employment. Please join me in urging the decision-makers to keep Great America open so future generations can continue to enjoy all it has to offer.

FYI: There was already a petition of the same topic by Matt Glumac, but the response to that is still pending. If we have two petitions, the evidence that closing the park will not be a good idea will be ever more prominent.
