The Issue

In the wake of recent hazardous weather conditions in the Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS) area, the safety of our children, families, and staff is our foremost concern. A significant snowfall has left roads and sidewalks in a perilous state, raising the risk of accidents and injuries as students and school personnel attempt to make their way to and from school.

FCCPS parents, guardians, and community members are urgently calling upon the district leaders to extend the closure of schools until local authorities can ensure that all roads and sidewalks are thoroughly cleared and safe for passage. Herndon, Arlington, and Fairfax have implemented similar measures in the past during adverse weather conditions, which significantly reduced safety risks, and it’s imperative we follow this prudent course of action.

By keeping schools closed for the short duration needed to ensure complete clearance and safety of transportation pathways, we can prevent unnecessary risks and safeguard the lives of those who are most vulnerable.

We urge FCCPS district leaders to take immediate action in the interest of student and staff safety. Let us be proactive and conscientious in this precarious situation. Please sign this petition to support a sensible decision that prioritizes the safety of our community, ensuring schools remain closed until roads and sidewalks are safe for all to navigate. Your support can make a tangible difference in our community's safety today.
