Hello Everyone:

It has been a while since the last update about the closing of the Edward-Elmhurst Health and Fitness centers.  The core team has been pursuing different avenues to achieve our aim, keeping EHFC open indefinitely.  

On a parallel track, we have continued to communicate with the Edward-Northshore management about actions they can take to help the affected vulnerable members, including those who are older and disabled.  Whatever the outcome, we will continue to advocate for these communities.  To this end, a member of our core team has a follow up meeting scheduled today with company management to discuss potential accommodations.

We would like to have as many people as possible continue to support these affected members.  If you would like to participate, I have set up a Gmail address at which you can contact me.  That email is stshamrock23@gmail.com.  Your identity will be kept confidential unless you wish it not to be.

Last, but certainly not least, I am grateful, humbled, and inspired by all who have supported this effort.  We may not achieve what the petition set out to do, but I believe we have already attained something greater - aiding people we don’t know but who needed our help.

I’d like to end this update (not the last) with a quote from John Donne, a 17th century English writer.

‘Never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee’

In other words, we are all connected. When one person hurts, we all hurt.  We can overcome this lament, however, by continuing to help with this effort.
