Aug 20, 2026

We are pleased to share that the Province has disallowed all three Crown land applications affecting the East Sooke Regional Park area.

The decision found that the proposed commercial use, infrastructure, and exclusive occupation were incompatible with the area’s conservation, recreation, and stewardship objectives. It also cited concerns related to sensitive ecological and cultural values, public access, and Aboriginal and Treaty rights.

Public input was significant: 3,216 of the 3,255 formal submissions opposed the applications, along with more than 8,700 petition signatures considered during the review.

Thank you to everyone who signed, submitted comments, contacted decision-makers, or helped share information. Your participation contributed to this outcome and helped keep this special area protected and publicly accessible.

East Sooke is a special place, and once again, this community has shown just how deeply it is loved.
